Caltex gives Robinsons Rewards Card members more fuel discounts and shopping savings

Manila, Philippines, March 26, 2014 – Robinsons Rewards Card (RRC) members will enjoy earning more points not only when they shop at their favorite Robinsons stores but also when they fuel up at Caltex. RRC members can now use their points to redeem P1 discount for every one liter fuel purchase at participating Caltex stations nationwide. Every five liter gas up earns a point which means that the more customers fuel up at Caltex and shop at Robinsons, the more points for fuel and shopping savings.

Caltex RRC

Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants, teamed up with Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. (RRHI), one of the largest multi-format retailers in the Philippines, to create a unique offer that allows customers to quickly and continually add value to their purchases by getting a variety of fuel and shopping rewards through their RRC.

Because of this loyalty program partnership, motorists now have more reasons to choose Caltex. Customers can save more on fuel costs when they purchase Caltex with Techron plus the five benefits of maximized power, improved fuel economy, lower emission, smoother drive and reliable performance.

In addition to fuel savings, RRC members will also enjoy big discounts in their shopping and grocery purchases as points earned at participating Caltex stations can be redeemed at any of 1,180 Robinsons stores nationwide which include Robinsons Supermarket and Department Store, Handyman, Toys R Us, True Value, A.M Builders’ Depot, and Robinsons specialty stores.

Customers can avail of this benefit by signing up for RRC membership at any Robinsons stores for P150 only.

CPI values the patronage of its customers by giving them access to top loyalty programs in the market. Last year, CPI partnered with Jollibee Food Corporation’s Happyplus program which continues to grow in memberships. Happyplus will run alongside the Robinsons Rewards Card loyalty program and customers can choose which of the rewards program they want to use.

“We like to surprise our customers in unexpected ways during their journeys. This loyalty program takes surprise to a whole new level for our loyal customers. Caltex motorists will be pleased that their Robinsons Rewards Card membership continues to reward them before or after shopping. This is possible because Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. chose to team up with Chevron Philippines as their first external partner. We are truly proud of this long-term relationship, ” said Peter Morris, Chevron Philippines Inc., Country Chairman and General Manager for Philippine products.

Robina Gokongwei-Pe, president and COO of RRHI. said “We at Robinsons Retail are always looking for new ways to delight our customers and give them a better customer experience.  That is why we are very happy to partner with Chevron Philippines Inc.’s, Caltex service stations to expand the acceptance of Robinsons Rewards beyond stores operated by Robinsons. This will be a welcome development to over 800,000 members of the Robinsons Rewards Card. With more than 700 Caltex service stations nationwide, we are very honored to have Chevron Philippines as our first external partner for Robinsons Rewards.”

Amdocs research shows superior customer and network experience keys to retaining PH mobile consumers

Manila, Philippines. March 16, 2015.  The Amdocs Customer Experience Spotlight 2015, an independent research study conducted by IE Market Research (IEMR) on behalf of Amdocs, highlights the importance of providing a superior customer experience in order to retain as well as attract new customers, including a carrier-grade Wi-Fi strategy to combat the threat of emerging players in the mobile market and offering multi-play bundles to win market share.

Amdocs PR 2_CES Wi-Fi infographic

Conducted among 8,450 consumers in 17 countries, including the Philippines, the Amdocs Consumer Experience Spotlight 2015 found that 27 percent of Filipino respondents, a figure higher than the global percentage, are more likely to consider switching to over-the-top (OTT) players, if they offered connectivity. Despite this possibility, they would still recommend their service provider to family and friends due to positive customer experience (94 percent) and competitive prices (83 percent).

The global survey further shows that Wi-Fi remains the preferred data connectivity option for most Filipinos. While 50 percent of the Filipino respondents said that they had a mobile Internet plan, 65 percent of them used Wi-Fi more frequently and 51 percent connected to Wi-Fi in public places when available.

Other key global findings include:

  • Churn persists within service provider industry: 63 percent of respondents stated they would recommend their service provider, citing customer care/experience (89 percent) and high-quality Internet connection and coverage (59 percent) as the top reasons for their endorsement.
  • Customers prefer “traditional” service providers: 80 percent of respondents would not consider switching to OTT disruptors if these players offered mobile connectivity. The top reasons were: privacy& security issues, lack of trust and potential network quality issues.
  • Customers desire innovative and new personalized services: More than half of the respondents stated that they would switch mobile subscription plans for a plan that included additional communication services (e.g. home, Internet, TV) with almost the same number of respondents saying they would switch if they were able to choose the bundle components.
  • The multi-play opportunity remains unclaimed: Although more than half (52 percent) of respondents subscribe to four services (broadband, TV, mobile, fixed line), only 1 percent has a single quad-play provider. Triple-play penetration was also low (9 percent).
  • Carrier-grade Wi-Fi will drive loyalty: Among the 62 percent of respondents with a mobile Internet plan, 71 percent use Wi-Fi more frequently than their mobile connection.

“With changing customer expectations and the ever-increasing threat of disruptive competitors, service providers are required to adopt a new strategy by taking a multidimensional view of customer experience,” said Chris Williams, head of global marketing at Amdocs. “By leveraging their customer experience strengths and innovative multi-play bundles, service providers have a tremendous opportunity to lead in The New World of Customer Experience.”

Caltex looks inside engines in Asia

Tests reveal that most Caltex with Techron users achieve an average of 9.7 out of 10 score rating on the cleanliness of their engine intake valves.

Metro Manila, Philippines – Caltex’s latest boroscope test in Asia, conducted throughout 2013, has revealed the harmful effects that lower quality gasoline have on motor engines, while highlighting the cleaning proposition that Caltex with Techron offers as the ideal solution for motorists. The boroscope test utilized a specially designed camera to examine the interior of a vehicle’s fuel system to inspect the cleanliness of critical engine parts.

Caltex with Techron gasoline has been proven to be efficient at keeping intake valves cleaner based on such boroscope tests conducted on a total of 224 valves in the Philippines. Results from 32 vehicles tested in the Philippines showed that vehicles using Caltex with Techron performed well in keeping fuel systems clean, proving that its gasoline kept intake valves almost perfectly clean as compared to vehicles using lower quality gasoline.

“Motorists are often unaware of the state of their vehicles. The boroscope tests prove to local motorists that Caltex with Techron works in keeping their engines clean, contributing to better performance of the vehicle,” commented Greg Engeler, Chevron Product Engineering Regional Manager, Asia Pacific. “Chevron has spent more than 30 years in research and development to prove that the cleaning properties of our patented Techron technology not only works in laboratories and in the US, but in the Philippines as well.”

Using a Karl Storz Endoscope (boroscope), Chevron engineers took photos of intake valves and ports (via fuel injector hole) and rated them using a Co-operative Research Council (CRC) Intake Valve Deposit (IVD) rating system, where a score out of 10 was assigned, with 10 denoting a perfectly clean valve. Photos were also taken of piston tops (via spark plug hole) to assess combustion chamber deposits (CCDs).

Vehicles that used Caltex with Techron achieved an average score of 9.7 out of 10 in Philippines, surpassing the average score of 9.2 for vehicles using lower quality gasoline, despite achieving a higher odometer reading. Vehicles using lower quality fuels recorded the worst valve readings of 8, 6 and 7 out of 10, for Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand respectively.

The tests were performed on local vehicles using Caltex with Techron and vehicles using competitor or lower quality gasoline brands within the test markets. Vehicles selected represent a cross-section of the local market vehicle fleet in order to reveal an unbiased and true state of local motorists’ vehicles.

“The test alerted motorists to the hidden problems of their vehicles, such as harmful deposits that may cause issues down the road. Caltex fuel quality is good that’s why I typically have no problems with my vehicle engine,” said Jed Villapando, one of the Filipino motorists who participated in the test.

Chevron Philippines Inc., Product Engineering Specialist, Jude Porras said, “To perform at its best, your engine requires unrestricted air and fuel delivery which cannot happen when a vehicle’s intake valves and port fuel injectors are clogged. A clean engine ensures that your vehicle’s fuel-to-air ratio is optimized, allowing your vehicle to maximize fuel energy. Only Caltex has Techron, which cleans up both the intake system and the combustion chamber, allowing vehicles to maintain optimum performance and increase fuel mileage.”

All grades of Caltex with Techron gasoline contain Techron. Techron contains a polyetheramine component designed to clean up fuel system deposits and prevent them from reforming. Lower quality fuels can leave harmful deposits in the motor engine that accumulate over time, causing the vehicle to stumble during acceleration, knock or lose power.

One tank full of Caltex with Techron is effective at cleaning and protecting engines previously choked up with deposits. Continuous use of Techron will provide motorists with better fuel economy, maximized power, reliable performance, lower emissions and a smoother drive. Caltex with Techron combines patented technology, proven research and service quality for the evolving needs of motorists who expect more out of their fuel.
