San Pascual, Batangas, September 23, 2016 — About 200 employees of Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of the Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, united with over 100 town residents and students of San Pascual, Batangas to gather a total of 514 garbage bags’ or 2.5 tons worth of rubbish as a result of the coastal clean-up activity which is part of Chevron’s annual Week of Caring (WOC) activity.
Chevron times its cleanup to coincide with the seasonal nesting of the said turtles at this coastal area, which occurs from September to December each year. As a result, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has declared the area as a sanctuary for the Olive-Ridley sea turtles.
“These kinds of clean-up activities let us reconnect with the local community and to give back to the environment in the spirit of volunteerism. On top of that, these also motivate our employees to be more socially responsible. We are positive that the sense of fulfillment these activities bring to our people would translate to increased productivity and good performance at work”, shared Peter Morris, CPI Country Chairman.
The annual coastal clean-up is the final activity of the five-day WOC program which this year also included school facilities improvement, road safety education, and art therapy session. This is the ninth edition of the WOC which advocates volunteerism among CPI employees and business partners.
