Mental health disorder is the third most common disability in the country, with an estimated 6 million Filipinos living with depression and/or anxiety, according to World Health Organization (WHO) data. Lack of updated information fails to present an accurate and complete picture of the status of mental health in the Philippines today, but previous studies by WHO, the Philippine Statistics Authority and other bodies indicate mental health is a serious – and growing – concern.

Mental Health in the Workplace: Creating a Safe Space for Employees

Despite awareness campaign efforts by the government and private sector, many remain uninformed about mental health problems and downplay them as a mere emotional state instead of a serious issue. The government has enacted the Mental Health Law to provide mental healthcare to persons with mental health problems, and many groups and agencies have facilitated discussions about mental health. But the lack of education remains, and this accounts for the stigma surrounding mental health.
