Investment Opportunities in the Philippines’ “Alternative City” Mapped Out

Plans to position the Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone as a regional business and investment hub were mapped out in interviews conducted by Oxford Business Group’s online broadcasting channel, Global Platform, with Udenna Group of Companies President and CEO Dennis Uy and Bases Conversion and Development Authority President Vincent Dizon.

Located at the northwest side of Pampanga province, Clark is being primed for development as the country’s future commercial and industrial center or “alternative city.” This is in line shift with plans to shift the focus away from the capital city Manila, which is now overpopulated and struggling with capacity issues.

Leading end-to-end logistics solutions provider Royal Cargo, Inc. inaugurated its Cargo City North Hub in Bulacan this July. Part of the company’s expansion plan to provide efficient distribution channels in Northern Luzon, the hub is located along the Plaridel Bypass Road in Bulacan and is by far the company’s largest and most modern distribution hub.

Caltex Gears up to Support Pantawid Pasada Program

In addition to giving discount on fuels to PUJ/PUBs, Caltex, which is marketed by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), is committed to support the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Department of Energy’s (DOE) Pantawid Pasada Program (PPP) launched this July 17, 2018.

Selected gas stations in the Caltex retail network of Metro Manila are ready to accept Pantawid Pasada Cards. Public transport workers need to bring their PPP cards to Caltex customer service representatives for validation before fueling up. It is important that the vehicle’s plate number matches with the one printed on the cards.

ABB EcoFlex Brings to Life First Commercial Biogas Facility in the Philippines

ABB is working with First Quezon Biogas Corporation, through its partner Yamato Technologies Pte Ltd. from Singapore, to power the country’s first commercial biogas facility. Currently being constructed in the province of Candelaria in Quezon, the plant will transform chicken manure, rice straws, and other agricultural waste into useable energy that can augment the load requirements of the Luzon grid.

Albert Alquiros, president of the First Quezon Biogas Corporation, sees the $9.7 million biogas plant as a means to help the town of Candelaria realize its zero waste objective, as it will require some 20 tons of agricultural waste annually to maintain its operations.

A Healthy Home Starts with Clean Air

Contrary to the notion of some that indoor air is safe, air pollution inside the home can be harmful to the health. The air indoors can, in fact, be more dangerous than outdoor air, with various allergens, germs, bacteria and air contaminants being trapped inside and building up over time. The lack of ventilation, particularly in small spaces such as condominiums and small offices, only worsens the situation. Indoor air pollution caused by cooking fumes alone is behind the recent ranking of the Philippines by the World Health Organization (WHO) as second in the Asia-Pacific with the most number of household sickness linked to poor quality of indoor air[1].
