World Vision and Ardent Communications, Inc. have been working together to increase awareness about the plight of Filipino children and inspire more people to join efforts to address their situation.
COVID-19 has made many children across the country, which have been suffering from poverty and abuse even before the pandemic, even more vulnerable. World Vision, a global child-focused humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the well-being of children, assessed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Filipino families last year and released an article on Filipinos’ top concerns amid the pandemic, identifying areas that needed immediate attention and response. The data formed part of the basis of the organization’s strategic humanitarian plan for children and their families to provide appropriate assistance.
Realizing the need to communicate these concerns to the public with more urgency, World Vision in the Philippines collaborated with ArdentComm to increase awareness and encourage the public to be more involved in these alarming societal concerns. The partnership allowed World Vision not just to boost awareness on its advocacies but also to educate more people about the plight of children and encourage them to donate to the organization’s initiatives.
To effectively mobilize people toward the goal of making the world a better and safer place for children, World Vision believes communication is key to making people understand not just the situation children face but also the current initiatives and programs being done to help these children. In support of World Vision’s advocacy, ArdentComm helped disseminate information and promote the organization’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives through relevant publications and channels.
“We are honored to be working with World Vision to raise awareness on the pressing issues children face. As a company in the business of communication, we understand how important it is to get the right message across in order to spur people into action. Through this partnership, we hope to be able to contribute to getting people involved and helping more to improve the conditions of our children,” said ArdentComm Founder and CEO Ana Pista.
World Vision’s CSR efforts also include disaster relief to provide assistance not just to children but their families as well. In partnership with the United Nations Population Fund in the Philippines (UNFPA), World Vision provided 1,400 maternity and dignity kits to pregnant and lactating women and women with disabilities following the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly. The organization also granted assistance and protective aid against COVID-19 to about 13,500 families in Marawi City last year as part of the health response launched in partnership with KOICA.

World Vision donated learning materials through Abutin Na10, the organization’s ongoing fundraising initiative in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd). The initiative communicated the need to prioritize children’s education amid the pandemic by providing them with resources for distance learning.
Aside from its CSR initiatives, World Vision regularly holds the CSR Summit, where select speakers are invited to talk about relevant issues surrounding children and the poor. This year’s summit, which was held in Cebu on March 23 and Davao on May 25, discussed how local government units (LGUs) can aid their constituents, in particular the poor and vulnerable, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has greatly affected the lives of many Filipino children, and it is our prayer that more people are made aware of these issues. Thanks to the widespread coverage of our advocacies and CSR initiatives, we have been experiencing an outpour of support both from individuals and organizations,” shared World Vision National Director Rommel Fuerte.
“We’re grateful to have partnered with ArdentComm, which has been helping us tell our stories, and in so doing reach more people and do more for Filipinos who need our help,” he added.
Alibaba Uses Cloud Technology to Reduce Heatstroke Risk During Tokyo 2020
Alibaba Group, Worldwide TOP Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced a new cloud-based solution to help Tokyo 2020 on-site staff reduce heatstroke risk during the summer in Tokyo.
Through an intelligent ear-worn device, the technology helps keep track of the body temperature and heart rate of the Tokyo Olympics on-site staff. A cloud-based system will identify the level of heatstroke risk in real-time based on the body temperature, heart rate and the environment index of individual working staff. Alerts will then be sent to those being exposed to a high level of risk along with recommended precautionary measures such as drinking more water to reduce the chances of getting heatstroke. The heat index in the surrounding environment, including temperature, humidity and direct or radiant sunlight, will also be monitored through multiple heat stress Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) meters set up at 14 Olympic competition venues.
Hidemasa Nakamura, chief of the Main Operations Centre (MOC) of the Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: “The Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games is working on various measures to protect working staff from the heat. Although it is expected to be extremely hot during the Olympic Games, we will provide support for the staff working for the Games. The cloud-based technology provided by Alibaba plays an important role here. The technology is used for WBGT measurement at the venue and the monitoring and prediction of heatstroke risks for the staff. By working with Alibaba, together with our other Worldwide Olympic partners, the organizing committee is determined to provide a safe tournament environment.”

“Leveraging our leading cloud technology, we hope to contribute to the safe and smooth operation of the Olympic Games,” said Selina Yuan, general manager of International Business, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “We believe our stable, resilient, elastic and secure cloud computing infrastructure will help digitalize the Olympic Games in various ways and bring new experiences to everyone involved.”
Alibaba has been offering various cloud services to support the digitalization of Tokyo 2020:
OBS Cloud for broadcasters: Alibaba Cloud and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) launched OBS Cloud in 2018, an innovative cloud-based broadcasting solution that helps transform the media industry for the digital age. During Tokyo 2020, it gives the Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) access to the cloud-hosted platform, which includes a variety of short-form, ready-to-air content produced by OBS and is designed specifically for digital and social media platforms.
3DAT for athletes: Hosted on Alibaba Cloud and leveraging Intel’s technology, 3DAT or 3D Athlete Tracking gives audiences professional insights into athletes’ performance as it happens. Without the need for motion-tracking sensors, 3DAT leverages standard video, AI and Computer Vision to extract more than 20 points in 3D on the athlete’s body, transforming that data into rich visualizations to enhance broadcasters’ storytelling for key Athletics sprinting events.
Press Conference on Cloud: This is a media service on the cloud for journalists who would like to watch and download the press conference videos during the Olympic Games if they cannot make it to Tokyo. The service includes video processing, audio/video editing, and livestream/VOD distribution and video download functions.
Tokyo 2020 Make The Beat!: In the run-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, global fans were invited to film themselves performing to the rhythm to cheer for their favorite athletes. A selection of the submitted material will be displayed during the event as a compilation generated using Alibaba Cloud technology.
Olympic Channel: Olympics.com, which is hosted on Alibaba Cloud, is designed to keep Olympic sports and athletes relevant in the years between each Olympic Games and attract new, younger audiences to a sports movement.
Alibaba Cloud Pin: Designed to add a new digital contribution to the traditional pin collecting and trading culture, this digital wearable is the first cloud pin designed to enable media professionals working at the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) and Main Press Centre (MPC) to engage with each other and exchange social media contact information in a safe and interactive manner during the Olympic Games.
