One Year Since Lockdown: Where are We?

A new year usually meant a new beginning, a time of refreshing in which we leave behind the year that had gone before and look forward to the days ahead. Whenever a new year would roll around, I would take out my planner and list down all the things I want to do that year – travel, attend concerts, figure out what I want to be. For the past few years of my life, it had always been this way.

Language is Alive and Animated: How the Internet Influences Linguistic Change

It started when BuzzFeed’s Tasty shared a video on Twitter of regular items such as a tissue roll, plant pot and bottle of hand sanitizer that all turn out to be cakes when sliced in the middle.

Mental Health in the Workplace: Creating a Safe Space for Employees

Despite awareness campaign efforts by the government and private sector, many remain uninformed about mental health problems and downplay them as a mere emotional state instead of a serious issue. The government has enacted the Mental Health Law to provide mental healthcare to persons with mental health problems, and many groups and agencies have facilitated discussions about mental health. But the lack of education remains, and this accounts for the stigma surrounding mental health.

Feeling Like a Zombie Lately? It Could be Quarantine Fatigue

The shelter-in-place directive has breached the six-month mark. Everyone has been staying indoors longer than ever before or more than initially anticipated, and it looks like the quarantine will continue. While keeping safe at home with family and loved ones or working from home and avoiding commuting may seem less taxing, a lot of people are starting to feel tired and exhausted cooped up for months on end. Not the cabin fever type of restlessness but a deeper sense of dissatisfaction or helplessness perhaps. Not the “I had a really long day” kind of tired but the “I’m deeply and inexplicably tired and I don’t know what to do about it” kind.
